Welcome and introduction
Opening the COPE seminar, Dan Kulp, COPE Chair, will introduce the virtual events that COPE members can attend throughout the week.
Dan will review recent COPE projects and resources, and look at new activities in the pipeline.
The evolving relationship between universities and scholarly publishers: where do we go next?
Deborah Poff will explore the history and radical changes that have been taking place in universities and scholarly publishing for the past 40 years and the similar pressures which each industry is having to deal with globally. The unique historical features that keep each role separate and distinct will be discussed, and the current critical requirements that are necessary for the continued success of both scholarly research and its publication will be described. Universities and publishers must establish a working, strategic two-way conversation and relationship to facilitate mutual success in a highly competitive international context. This will then evolve into a recognition of some shared and mutual interests and goals, and a commitment to work together.
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A.
