Introduction to current issues in artificial intelligence (AI)

Joining us to share their expertise are Marie Soulière, Frontiers open access publisher and COPE Council member, and Nishchay Shah, Cactus Communications.

Nishchay Shah

Nishchay will discuss the significant advancements and trends in AI over the past year, such as breakthroughs in natural language processing, the proliferation of AI in healthcare for diagnostics and personalised medicine, and the ethical and regulatory debates sparked by more sophisticated AI models. Looking forward to 2024, Nishchay will look at the potential of AI in further transforming industries like education, where personalised learning could become more prevalent.

Nishchay is the CTO and head of the AI powered products business at Cactus Communications. With a strong background in AI and its applications, Nishchay plays a pivotal role in driving the company's technological strategy and product development, focusing on leveraging artificial intelligence to build products that help move research forward.

Dr Marie Soulière

Marie will showcase how Frontiers use AI tools to help maintain quality and research integrity across the journals, including real-life examples of misconduct cases caught by their algorithms and of efficient peer review experiences enhanced by AI.

Marie leads strategic publishing projects in open-access publishing, with a specific focus on publication ethics and quality peer review, balanced with operational efficiency and automation with the use of artificial intelligence tools. She was heavily involved in developing Frontiers’ artificial intelligence review assistant (AIRA). Marie was elected to the COPE Council in 2020.
