Dr. Garfinkel is currently the Associate Vice President for Research Compliance at The Ohio State University. She is responsible for leading and implementing programs and policies to ensure university compliance with federal, state, and private sponsor requirements and to support and promote ethical research practices. Dr. Garfinkel is the owner of Research Integrity Partners, LLC, providing consulting expertise in matters of research integrity, misconduct, and compliance.
Previously, Dr. Garfinkel served as the Director for the Division of Investigative Oversight (DIO), in the U.S. Office of Research Integrity (ORI), responsible for the oversight of national and international research misconduct matters. Other positions include Director of Research Grants for a non-profit organization that funded research in age-related degenerative diseases and stem cell research, a Program Officer at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and faculty for conferences to train State and Federal court judges on various scientific and technologic issues related to genetics and molecular biology.
She is a founding member of the Asian Pacific Rim Research Integrity network (APRI) and serves on committees for the US Association of Research Integrity Officers (ARIO).
