The COPE publication ethics audit is a new tool, available only to COPE members. It is designed to help editors identify areas of their journal's policy, processes or practice that might require attention or need revision to bring them in line with the Code of Conduct and Best Practice guidelines.
It is available here http://publicationethics.org/resources/audit but you will need to be logged on as a COPE member to access the document.
Several journals piloted an earlier version of the audit and all found it helpful -- the editors involved with the pilot commented that the audit was: a good way to discuss editorial policies, a good opportunity to examine Instructions for Authors and also helped with tasks that they'd been meaning to do for a long time!
We do not expect journals to share the results of your audits with COPE, but we are always glad to receive feedback and suggestions for improvements. In particular, we should be grateful for suggestions for links to other guidelines and resources (especially from outside biomedicine) which might make the audit even more useful.
