ALPSP Workshop, Publication Ethics: Fraud and misconduct

This is a practical course to help you understand your legal and ethical obligations and implement a successful diversity and inclusion strategy in your workplace. Diversity and inclusion have never been higher on the news and social agenda than at present, and this course will help delegates understand what the law requires, and the practical steps they can take to improve inclusion.

JOR/ORS Workshop on Preprint Servers: Public Access and Peer-Review

Preprint servers are places where manuscripts and data can be made public on the internet. These sites are not peer-reviewed, but often stimulate discussion of the posted studies. This workshop will analyse the pro and cons of using preprint servers, review the policies of publishers and journals, and invite a lively discussion on the role of this new public access to data.

Open Access and Medical Publishing: ISMPP

ISMPP invites COPE members to attend a special 90-minute ISMPP U educational webinar, Open Access and Medical Publishing, on Wednesday, January 30, at 11 am EST/4 pm in the UK.

The webinar is open to all and free to COPE members. Expert speakers representing different stakeholder views – industry (Shire), funder (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), publisher (Wiley and American Society of Clinical Oncology [ASCO]), patient, and academia – will discuss various considerations around open access publishing. Medical Editors short course

This international workshop (in its 22nd year) for editors looks at:
(1) How to publish better content, and
(2) How to increase journal impact.

Run with only 25 participants, the course is highly interactive and allows editors to discover solutions for their own journals. It is is ideally suited for newly-appointed Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board members and senior managing editors.

Mediterranean Editors and Translators Meeting 2018

The theme of the conference is "Giving credit where credit's due: recognition for authors, translators and editors". 

Iria del Río, COPE Council member, will give a keynote on Saturday "Credit and merit: toward a transparent, ethical publishing culture" and is holding a workshop on Friday discussing real cases sent to COPE.

The SciELO 20 Years Conference will address and debate – during its three day program – the main political, methodological and technological issues and trends that define today’s state of the art in scholarly communication.

These issues will also be shaping the future of the universal openness of scholarly publishing and its relationship with today’s Open Access journals, in particular those of the SciELO Network.

Association of Research Integrity Officers 2018

Deborah Poff (COPE vice-Chair and Chair-elect) and Charon Pierson (COPE Secretary) are delivering the Keynote giving a "Perspective on Research Integrity" at the opening of this year's ARIO conference in Cleveland, Ohio on behalf of COPE. This session will discuss the role of COPE and journal editors in the research misconduct process and other research integrity issues.
