Following on from the success of our Peer Review Workshop during this year’s Peer Review Week, COPE is re-running this workshop, with the same cases, at a time that we hope will be suitable for members in different time zones. The workshop will work through real cases raised by COPE Members to identify issues in peer review and how to handle them.
Join us for the workshop where we'll create an online environment for attendees to share ideas, experience, and suggest next steps for each case.
The workshop will be online on the Zoom platform and will follow this format:
- we begin the sessions together then break out into smaller groups, each facilitated by a Chair
- in the small groups everyone has a chance to discuss the cases, express their views, and how to resolve the issues arising from the discussion
- we then come back together where representatives from each group feed back key points raised.
This is an interactive session so please come prepared to participate in the discussion.
Cases for discussion
The cases for discussion will be based on these real cases:
Case 1 Editor and reviewers requiring authors to cite their own work
Case 2 Compromised peer review system in published papers
Case 3 Author requests for certain experts not to be included in the editorial process
Case 4 Author of rejected paper publicly names and criticises peer reviewer

The workshop is free for COPE members.
Please note, spaces are limited to the first 50 applicants; only those registered will be able to attend the workshop. You will receive an email to confirm your registration. A link to join the workshop will be sent the day before the event. If oversubscribed, a waiting list will be set up. We ask that you let us know if your plans change and you cannot attend so that we can allocate your place to someone else.
