Editorial on bias and competing interests in PLoS Medicine

This month's Editorial (DOI: 10.1371/journal.pmed.1000038) in PLoS Medicine discusses how the publication of scientific research can be inappropriately influenced by various forms of bias and the effects of competing interests.

It highlights five ways, all of which COPE members will be familiar, that individuals involved in the publication process can mitigate the effects of biased agendas on the published scientific record. We'd be very interested in getting feedback from COPE members on the editorial.

Competing interest: I'm the Chief Editor of PLoS Medicine.
