Michael Magoulias began his publishing life as a sub-editor on British Vogue and Tatler. His subsequent career has been devoted to academic and professional publishing. At Gale Research (now Cengage) he edited collections of literary criticism and was editor of the Shakespearean Criticism series. He later worked at Chadwyck-Healey (now part of ProQuest) in a new product development capacity as that firm moved its digital publishing of large text collections from CD-ROM to the web. For a 14-year period, he worked at Elsevier, most recently as Publishing Director for The Lancet, where developed business plans for several new journals and implemented strategies for growing the Lancet portfolio's presence in the US. Since April 2012, he has served as Director of the Journals Division of the University of Chicago Press. He is a graduate of Merton College, Oxford, where he read Modern History.
