Dr Marie F Soulière is Head of Editorial Ethics and Quality Assurance with the open access publisher Frontiers, based in Switzerland. She studied pharmacology and biochemistry at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada, before moving to Austria to conduct postdoctoral research in chemical and computational biology at the University of Innsbruck. With 12 publications, a patent and a large number of presentation awards to her research record, she then started her career in open access publishing. She has since worked to improve dissemination, access to and quality of research and published articles, with a specific focus on research integrity, quality peer review and maintaining ethical standards, balanced with an emphasis on operational efficiency and automation.

From her role as Journal Manager of a portfolio of biomedical journals, she became Program Manager for the physical sciences and engineering and the humanities and social sciences programs of journals. Between 2016 and 2020, she led teams handling all aspects of the Frontiers Collaborative Peer Review process, from initial quality checks to ethical issues as well as publication and retraction of articles. She now leads strategic publishing projects across departments and product platforms. She was heavily involved in developing Frontiers’ artificial intelligence review assistant (AIRA), and is a member of CrossRef's Membership and Fees committee.
