Frits R Rosendaal studied medicine in Rotterdam and did his PhD, on haemophilia, in Leiden. He is currently editor in chief of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the journal of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). He is a member of the Council of the ISTH, was its Chairman, and President of the 2013 Congress of this Society. He founded the European Congress on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and organised its inaugural congress in 2016. He is professor and chairman of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Leiden University Medical Center.
He has published over 800 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Central Committee on Human Research of The Netherlands and chairman of the Leiden University Committee on Scientific Integrity. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences of The Netherlands (KNAW) and of the German Academy Leopoldina. He has received the highest scientific award of the Netherlands (Spinoza award) and was bestowed an honorary doctorate by the University Descartes, Paris.
