During her career she has gained an advanced understanding and experience of ethical issues in research and journals publishing. In 2014, Deborah was responsible for leading the response to the discovery of the fake reviewers, in close cooperation with COPE. In 2015, she coordinated efforts between the Think, Check, Submit campaign to educate authors on how to recognise ethical publications. As well as being a COPE Council Member since 2016, she has served on the Board of OASPA, as a member of the EC-funded SOAP project, an expert advisor to the European Science Foundation, on the Serials Publishers Executive of the Publishers Association and the training committee of STM.
